Bumble BFF
As advertising continues to digitise, agencies need to keep eyeballs on ads for as long as possible. In 2020, we won the Google Skippy’s challenge by creating the year’s most un-skippable ad. Participating agencies were challenged to create a 2-minute YouTube TrueView ad for Bumble BFF to help young women find like-minded friends.
The winner was determined by YouTube’s performance metrics of view through rate, average watch-time and ad recall. Where other agencies relied on traditional storytelling techniques, we challenged female stereotypes to ‘Break Every Excuse’ by seamlessly blending YouTube’s best practice science with non-traditional digital storytelling techniques.
By Understanding the key moments when people usually stop watching and the fundamentals to keep people engaged gave us a clear plan not only for our concept, but for the final edit. It was an interesting exercise to trade conventional storytelling for the science of numbers, but we trusted the process and it ultimately paid off. Plus who doesn’t love watching stuff being smashed in super slow motion?”
